Cities are economic engines of growth. Nearly 31% of India’s current population lives in urban areas and contributes 63% of India’s GDP. With increasing urbanisation, urban areas are expected to house 40% of India’s population and contribute 75% to the GDP by 2030. This requires comprehensive development of physical, institutional, social and economic infrastructure.
To cope with rising urbanisation and climate change issues, innovation and digital technology must be leveraged to minimise energy consumption and improve quality of life. Innovation must be combined with energy, digital technology and information and communications technology to address urbanisation challenges and ensure sustainability. A highly functioning wifi hotspot is essential for the vision we strive to accomplish. The Smart City Project is a step towards that direction. A smart city manages the cities assets through extensive use of ICT Tools.
